After World War II, three Athens brothers — Grady, Bud, and Tunis Thrasher — built an aerial circus out of surplus planes and a 1946 Ford. Their signature act was landing a Piper Cub on an eight-by-twenty-foot platform bolted to the roof of the family car, billed as the World’s Smallest Airport. From 1945 to 1950 they played 378 shows, from Houston to Erie to Miami.
Join us for a screening of the documentary World’s Smallest Airport: The True Story of the Thrasher Brothers Aerial Circus, 1945–1950, produced and directed by Matt DeGennaro and written with Grady Thrasher, son of the circus’s founder.
